SCAR & VISCERAL MASSAGE
Visceral massage
The body’s connective tissue namely fascia responds to load tension and injury throughout the body, and travels in a non linear fashion, is innervated and responsive to the nervous system.
Any surgery such as a C section, abdominoplasty or mastectomy will disrupt fascia and can cause a pull or a restriction elsewhere in the body. It is of huge benefit to assess after surgery post 6 weeks of initial healing and to lengthen and restore flexibility with Visceral massage following surgeries of any sort, particularly abdominal surgery.
Scar massage
Scarring of tissues post surgery is a normal process with healing tissues that were cut. However the fibrin and collagen that is laid down with scarring requires touch to soften and make pliable post surgery.
I can advise on management and techniques to improve abdominal scars.
I use and teach Scar massage and other adjunctive skills such as acupuncture to reduce scarring that can cause discomfort or change the appearance of the abdomen following surgery.
